Here are some links to educational Web sites and other resources about tallgrass prairies in Illinois and other Midwestern states. The Build-a-Prairie
online game, from Bell Museum in Minnesota, is fun to play for
students who can read (or for younger students with adult help): Summer
Prairie Wildflowers and Grasses of Illinois is an online version
of a poster that's available free to teachers:
Teachers can go to this site for information about the prairie poster
and other free educational materials from the Illinois Department of
Natural Resources: Midewin
Activities for Classrooms are prairie-related lessons
developed by the Chicago Academy of Science with assistance from
Chicago-area school teachers: Prairie animal printouts
and information from Enchanted Learning: Illinois Prairies,
from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, provides background
information and word games that seem appropriate for the middle
elementary grades. Prairie in Illinois,
by the Illinois State Museum, provides background information and
activities for teachers and older students: Prairies in the Prairie
State, by the Illinois State Museum, includes information about
Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, a prairie preserve being developed
